Programme
Coordinator and Teacher,
Yew Chung
International Kindergarten, Kowloon Tong,
Hong Kong. I am currently responsible for coordinating the English programme
for children aged 3 to 6 years and for supervising the English curriculum
and teachers. As well, I teach English to classes of 5 to 6 year old children. In
previous years with Yew Chung, I have taught 3 and 4 year old children,
addressing their needs physically, socially, emotionally, cognitively,
creatively and spiritually. As the first language for the majority of these
children is Cantonese, my position requires that I concentrate specifically
on supporting their development of English as a second language. During my time with Yew Chung Kindergarten, I have been involved in many organisational committees responsible for organising and running special events such as Christmas parties, Easter celebrations, graduation ceremonies, Family Fun days and other cultural celebrations. I have been involved in developing curriculum, staff manuals and policies, year books and children’s portfolios. I have been involved in communicating with parents on a regular basis. This has involved holding regular conferences with families to discuss their children’s developmental progress, writing bi-annual report cards, monthly newsletters and parent education articles. The teaching environment at Yew Chung is bilingual/bicultural. I have working closely with teaching partners, in a team situation, so that the programme developed is respectful and encompassing of many cultures and languages. My position has involved teacher education and supervision. I have developed and run staff training sessions, including computer training focusing on Microsoft Publisher. I have written numerous articles, on behalf of Yew Chung, that were published in magazines targeting families. The articles outlined ideas parents could engage in, with their child, in order to foster their child’s development. |

Educator, Kings International College, Reedy Creek. I was employed as a curriculum development office in the Childcare Department of the College. My responsibilities include developing and writing the units for all childcare courses - Certificate III in Childcare, Diploma of Childcare and Advanced Diploma of Childcare. Writing these courses was a challenging and rewarding assignment, which caused me to draw on my years of experience in working with children, as well as undertaking extensive research. The courses covered every aspect of children's development and care from birth through to age 12 years, as well as extensive information on teaching strategies, safety and health, teamwork, etc. During this period I was involved extensively in teaching adult students who are studying the childcare courses. This involved preparing lessons, teaching, developing assessments and assessing students (both in the classroom and in the field). I was responsible for the creative classes (making puppets, artwork, music, etc). I had the pleasure of teaching high school students as they participated in the childcare course. The high school students and myself engaged in fund raising to purchase additional equipment for the college. |
